DAVID PEARCE RAISES FUND FOR SENTATE RACE

WARRENSBURG, Mo.)  - David Pearce, a Johnson County Republican,  announced on Oct. 15, that he has raised more than $50,000 in his bid for the 31st District Senate race in 2008.

Pearce reported assets of $50,140 in the campaign finance reports due in the Secretary of State’s office Oct. 15.

“I’m really pleased with how the campaign has gone thus far,” said Pearce, currently the state representative for Missouri’s 121st District. “This has been a good benchmark for us to reach this early in the race. It indicates solid support of our race and the desire to return a Republican office holder to the 31st District.”

Pearce, of Warrensburg, is the first Republican candidate to declare interest in the Senate seat now held by Sen. Chris Koster. The district includes Johnson, Bates, Cass and Vernon counties in western  Missouri.

The campaign finance report, which covered the months of July, August and September, included 41 donations of $100 or less and 90 donations over $100. Pearce announced his intention to run for the Missouri Senate in early August.

“Our donations show widespread support from individuals, groups and businesses,” he said. “This has been a grassroots effort focusing on representing the economic interests of the residents of this district and protecting family values.”

Pearce is serving his third two-year term in the House. During that time, he has sponsored legislation to add cell phones and faxes to the state’s No Call List, prohibit sexually-oriented billboards, bar the operation of private treatment centers for convicted sex offenders and protect Second Amendment rights on the state level. He also has co-sponsored pro-life legislation and sponsored and authored HB 741, an economic development bill that provided statewide incentives for job creation and agriculture.

In the past legislative session, he served as Vice Chairman of the Higher Education Committee, and a member of the Public Safety Committee and Corrections Committee of Appropriations. He also was appointed to the Missouri Military Preparedness Commission and special committees on Job Creation and Economic Development and Evaluation of the 911 System.

Pearce has a long history of community and public service, having served as executive director of the Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce for six years and as a member of the Warrensburg Board of Education and the Whiteman Air Force Base Community Council. He currently is Vice President of First Community Bank in Warrensburg.

He has received numerous awards and honors including:
-Friend of the Year, Missouri Optometric Association
-University of Central Missouri Excellence in Governance Award
-Friend of Agriculture by the Missouri Farm Bureau
-Legislator of the Year by the Career and Technical Educators of Missouri
-Legislator of the Year by the Missouri Association of Veterans Organizations.
