DAVID PEARCE SURPASSES $90,000 FOR SENATE RACE

State Rep. David Pearce, the Republican candidate for the 31st Senatorial District, reached an important benchmark when he reported Tuesday that his Senate campaign has exceeded $90,000 cash on hand.

Rep. Pearce, who announced his intention to seek the Senate seat last summer, reported cash on hand of $90,965 in the Jan. 15 campaign finance filing with the Missouri Ethics Commission.

“I am humbled by the overwhelming trust and support that the constituents of the 31st Senatorial District have shown me,” said Rep. Pearce of Warrensburg. “One of the things I’m most pleased about is that we have nearly 100 donations from private individuals who gave $100 or less. This shows we have a broad base of support and continue to put ourselves in a position to win.”

Rep. Pearce’s campaign funds are similar to the level achieved in the same reporting period during the 2004 Senate race in the 31st District. The district is comprised of Bates, Cass, Johnson and Vernon counties.

The campaign finance report also included roughly $3,700 in refunds that were made following the Supreme Court ruling that re-established limits of $650 per donor for Senate candidates.

Pearce is serving his third two-year term in the House. During that time, he has sponsored legislation to protect the sanctity of life, reaffirm Second Amendment rights on the state level, and to provide statewide incentives for job creation and agriculture. Legislation he is sponsoring or co-sponsoring this year includes bills to:

  • Curb predatory lending practices of subprime lenders that have sparked a nationwide mortgage crisis
  • Reinstate federal standards for overtime wages that were in place before the passage of Proposition B (2006), including exemptions for firefighters and police
  • Expand the No-Call list to include cell phones numbers, faxes and text messages and prohibit automatic dialing announcing devices
  • Establish a Missouri Voluntary Developer Agreement Law to allow TIF-like programs to be implemented on a voluntary basis by public entities
  • Regulate the establishment of sex offender treatment facilities.

He currently serves on the Higher Education Committee, Appropriations-Public Safety Committee, Economic Development Committee and is chairman of the Policy Development Committee.

Rep. Pearce has received numerous awards and honors including:
-Friend of the Year, Missouri Optometric Association
-University of Central Missouri Excellence in Governance Award
-Friend of Agriculture by the Missouri Farm Bureau
-Legislator of the Year by the Career and Technical Educators of Missouri
-Legislator of the Year by the Missouri Association of Veterans Organizations.
